PA Trip 4/11

Location: Walmart
Duration: 20 minutes
Training aids: 6 ft lead and prong collar

Qiva went in for a short trip to Walmart last night at around 9. I am not going to list because she did pretty fantastically. She was very excited and happy but listened to all commands. There were people out in the parking lot running around yelling, and she was totally fine with it.

The only thing that really needs work is her want to greet people. She tried to say hi to a little girl who talked to her but was easily redirected.

Overall she did WAY better than I thought she would.

Obedience Training 4/11

Location:  Neighborhood and Park
Duration: 1.5 hours
Training Aids: Flat collar, 20 ft lunge line, and kibble/freeze dried chicken

Qiva was worked on her flat collar and a 20 ft lunge line. We worked on basic obedience without having a training type collar on.

What she did well:

  • Heeled better than I thought she would. She needed reminders but stayed in the heeling position around 80% of the time
  • Long distance sit stay
  • Long distance down stay
What needs work:
  • Recall under distractions. She has about a 50/50 recall right now when distractions are added. As we went around the park I let her have all 20 feet to sniff around then would recall her randomly. With a higher rate of reinforcement she was doing much better by the end of the session

She did much better on heeling and listening without a training collar than I thought she would. We made noticeable progress by the end of our walk.

  • Reliably taking every time

Tune Up 4/7

Location: Cedarwoods K9 School
Duration: 1.25 hours
Training Aids: 6 foot leash, Prong collar

Qiva worked on her basic obedience skills including heel, auto sit, down, stay, and keeping focus among distraction.

What she did well:

  • Long sits and downs were AWESOME. She held them very well even from 50+ feet
  • Working among other dogs, including very reactive ones
  • Auto sit
What needs work:
  • Not trying to engage other dogs in play

Over all she did very well tonight. I was proud of her for holding her long distance sits and downs.

Down Town Outing 4/7

Location: Down Town Bellingham
Duration: 1.5 hours
Training aids used: Prong Collar, 6 foot leash, String Cheese

We went downtown to work on basic obedience as well as socialization. We ran into pressure washers, car alarms, people with walkers, strollers, skate boards, parking garages, and others.

What she did well:

  • Automatic Sit. She did this very well and did it almost every stop with little to no prompting.
  • Focus
  • Stays
  • Sit
  • Down
What needs work:
  • Heeling (was distracted by some people/objects)
  • Ignoring people/other dogs
  • Ignoring wheeled objects such as strollers and skate boards
The only real "problem" we had persey was when a large pitbull slammed into a car window and started barking at her, she snorted at the dog but was easily redirected.
